That can be a hard pill to swallow, right?
Often we like to blame others for our shortfalls in life- ‘It was how I was raised’ or ‘Because of x I never got the opportunity to…’
And I get it. I really, truly do.
For most of my existence, I thought that life happened to you. That life dealt its cards and you had to make the best of it.
When I was 21 my now step-mum gave me a book to read- ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne. (I’m sure many of you have heard of it).
At the time, I was both blown away and at the same time, sceptical as heck!
In case you’re not familiar with the secret, it’s all about the universal law of attraction. The idea that our lives manifest as a result of our thoughts and feelings. The energy we put out into the universe is attracted back to us.
If you feel abundant, you attract more abundance into your life.
If you feel grateful for things in your life, you attract more things to feel gratitude for.
If you visualise something you want, and can truly feel what it would be like to have it, you can manifest it into existence.
Ask, believe, and you will receive.
…You get the picture.
Anyway, The Secret was my first taste of this new paradigm for me- that life is happening FOR me, not TO me.
And the deeper I got into reading law of attraction books, having a daily gratitude journal, creating a vision board and following others on YouTube on this path, I realised this Really is a secret!
Many people in my life had either never heard of the law of attraction or thought it was a load of bull**t.
So, if this post is the first time you’ve ever heard of the law of attraction, or a sceptic, or a total manifestation machine, I hope sharing this experience brings you hope or reaffirms your belief. I hope this may be the doorway for some of you to the amazing world of manifestation!
(And disclaimer: Just because I know how manifestation works doesn’t mean I’m a millionaire businesswoman with a lake house just yet- I’ve still got work to do on some deep-rooted subconscious beliefs etc. But what I do know is that shifting your mindset and having faith in something greater makes every day feel like a blessing and the future full of unlimited potential!)
Just over a year ago I was in my third and final year of university.
One of my amazing lecturers past me in the corridor and we got chatting about life after graduation- this was the topic on everyone’s mind, and many of the graduate jobs were interviewing already.
My dream was to travel the world as a digital nomad. I would spend hours planning and writing out this vision for my life- how it would feel to work from coffee shops, live out of a backpack, and meet people from around the world.
I told my lecturer that being a digital nomad was the plan after university; to travel in South East Asia and maybe Australia, and to work online. At the time I totally had some south-doubt about whether this would happen, which 100% slowed down my ability to manifest it.
Fast forward a few months and I’d been in Austin, Texas on a long break with family before entering ‘the real world’.
From the end of July to the start of October was one of the darker times in my life. I was desperately trying to find a job. The belief that I could find a remote job I’d love was so faded I could barely see the vision anymore. I began interviewing for coffee shop jobs or office jobs in my hometown in the hope of saving money to travel- I was so depressed and low. I’d had a few remote interviews but was impatiently waiting on their responses (Plus a surprise emergency operation hit me like a slap in the face. When it rains it pours right?!)
And looking back, being ‘desperate’ for my dreams was part of the problem. I felt in lack and was, therefore, attracting more lack into my life.
But here’s the incredible part. A couple of weeks after my surgery I had a second interview and loved the company- and they offered me the job! Just when I was giving up any hope, a rainbow appeared!
After dipping my toes into this lifestyle with a 10-day trip to Budapest, after Christmas 2018 I pack my bags and headed to Bangkok Thailand. Since then this life has led me to Chiang Mai, Bali, Melbourne, and now Sydney, where I’m currently sat in a café on Bondi Beach writing this post!
I reflect on this moment in the corridor with my lecturer a lot. From the surface, it’s such an insignificant moment. But this moment taught me so much- because I’m living that dream just 1 year later.
Heck, it’s been a bumpy road, I’ve made mistakes and spent to0 long focusing on the unimportant, things in life. I’ve nearly given up so many times when travelling got tough (and then been so good glad I didn’t because I met the best people or had the best experience).
But because of that simple moment at university I know (and remind myself daily) that I have to power to manifest freakin anything!
If you can set the clear intention and feel so amazing visualising your dreams…
If you can let go of the outcome and spend each day working towards your goals,
If you can hold the faith that the universe will come knocking with its sweet divine timing…
…Your vision board will no longer be cut out photos from Pinterest or magazines- you’ll look up and it will be your life!
If you’re inspired or intrigued…
If you’re looking for some amazing Law of Attraction books etc, some of my faves are…
