Earlier this month I headed up north with my mum and sister to Newcastle Upon Tyne, a university city in the northeast of England. We were staying with my brother and his wife, who’ve lived there for a few years now, and I can see why they love this little gem of a city!
Plus, Newcastle is home to one of the best vegan pubs- The Ship Inn. Even the meat-eaters loved it so they must be doing something right!
I’m so grateful to have such an awesome family, who went totally out of their way to fill us up with yummy vegan food. Thank you Andy & Sadie!
Why Visit Newcastle Upon Tyne?
So a few reasons to visit Newcastle Upon Tyne. Of course, there’s the iconic Angel of the North in Gateshead…
And the river Tyne in the heart of the city, where it was actually warm enough to sit outside a pub and enjoy the sunshine! On Sundays, they have a lovely market to stroll through.
The city centre itself has all the typical shops, but also a great cultural feel about it, plus loads of bars and restaurants to enjoy.
Vegan Roast Dinner
But guys, the cherry on top of this fab weekend was Sunday lunch at The Ship Inn, Ouseburn. It’s a fully vegan English pub, and dang, the food is so good!
The family all had a roast, with either pie or nut roast. They didn’t have a lot of gluten-free options on this particular day, but they kindly adapted the falafel to make it GF. I don’t need to carry on, the photos speak for themselves!
It’s so nice to do a bit of travelling within your own country, you realise how much you have yet to explore on your doorstep!
